Celebrating our success

Stanton & Killeen has been in the wine industry since 1875. Much has changed since the Stanton's harvested their first vintage in the 1870s. Large corporations have taken over the lion's share of the wine market. Little wineries like us are living and working in the hugely competitive world of wine. For the most part, the wine-making business is rewarding, but we have certainly had our share of ups and downs.

Stanton and Killeen's success has always been attributed to three key factors; our pursuit of excellence, the support of our loyal customers and the incredible relationship with the Rutherglen wine community, who have gathered around and enabled us to be where we are today. Still in business and thriving. There have been many highlights over the past decade that we are particularly proud of, and they include:

• Developing a range of table wines from the Portuguese port varieties, Chris Killeen planted in the early nineties. While Chris was alive, he only made Vintage Fortified (port) with those varieties. We now offer an extended range of gorgeous Portuguese table wines.

• Developing a white Portuguese grape variety vineyard in 2015. Alvarinho and Arinto have been an enormous success story for us, and in 2020 we added another white variety, Antăo Vaz. Climate change was an influencer in choosing these varieties along with developing an interesting portfolio.

• Winning several gold medals and trophies for our table wines, including the Alvarinho, Arinto and Tinta Roriz in 2019 and continuing success on the show circuit with our fortified wines.

• In 2015 we met and developed a strong relationship with with a Chinese wine buying company based in Mount Waverly. Until the collapse of the Australia/China wine relatonship late last year, our export sales were increasing every year.

• We developed a small but growing export market in Taiwan. This market is growing due to the Taiwanese people's love of food and a growing interest in international wines.

• We commissioned a brand consultant to review who we are and where we needed to be. Our logo and labels received a beautiful refresh in 2019.

Overall we respect our heritage and believe in our future and live and work with integrity synonymous with the S&K brand.

Today I work in partnership with my daughter Natasha Killeen (7th generation), operating the 146-year-old winemaking legacy. The Stanton & Killeen brand is strong and focused on sustainability and success in the future, perhaps for the next generation and the generations that may follow.
