Vintage Fortifieds

Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified

Stanton and Killeen Vintage Fortified (previously Vintage Port) is made from grapes picked in a single vintage year, which during the wine making process, has carefully selected grape spirit added to it, resulting in a final alcohol content of about 18.5%.

Following almost two years in premium oak, the fortified is bottled. It then requires 10-20 years bottle ageing before it is fully matured and ready to drink.

Stanton & Killeen have crafted a Vintage Fortified unlike most others produced in Australia. The Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified has evolved into a dryer more elegant style, this has occurred with the introduction of Portuguese Port grape varieties added to those traditionally used in Australia.

To appreciate Vintage Fortified at it’s best one should stand the bottle up 24 hours prior to opening so that the natural deposit can settle to the bottom. The bottle should then be opened and decanted with great care so as not to disturb the sediment.

Fully matured Stanton and Killeen Vintage Fortified is an exquisite drinking pleasure made even more enjoyable when consumed in the company of friends.

We also have a page that explains ‘What are Fortified Wines?’ which will give you a quick overview.

The Great Vintage Port Tasting - 1971 - 1999

Vintage Port is one of the World's great wine styles and is the wine I most prefer to drink and enjoy!

It is made from a single vintage year and bottled after only one to two years barrel ageing. Generally the best of them mature for up to twenty or thirty years and when perfectly mature are an exquisite drinking experience.

The following notes give a short appraisal of the wine, a recommended drinking date and a score out of ten. Please don't think a score of 7 out of 10 is a poor wine, this is certainly not the case, it is the only way we can compare our own wines against one another and put the superlative 10 out.of 10 wines into perspective. (Perhaps these wines should be 11 out of 10 and lift the score of the others by one ???)
