At 21 years of age, the 2006 Vintage Fortified is a confident expression of the Stanton & Killeen style, built on both tradition and curiosity. This vintage brings together Shiraz and Durif with a beautifully judged mix of Portuguese varieties, creating a wine that feels classic, yet unmistakably S&K.
The blend is layered and deliberate: Shiraz 29%, Touriga Nacional 20%, Tinta Barroca 17%, Tinto Cão 14%, Tinta Roriz 10% and Durif 10%. A ripe, hot vintage at the height of the millennium drought, the natural fruit weight, paired with high-quality spirit, has delivered a big and generous Vintage Fortified that is currently at its peak.
The flavour profile is dense and richly ripe, big and plush with real weight. Ripe plum and blackberry compote sit at the core, complemented by ground coffee, coffee scroll and tiramisu. The palate is generous and spirit-led, carrying heavy, sweet fruit weight with a delicate complexity from the spirit.
Bold, rich, and wonderfully ripe, this is a Vintage Fortified that falls long and creamy on the finish, with notes of coffee cake and brandied stewed fruits. A superb food wine, lovely with a sharp blue cheese. At its peak now, with potential to 2030.
