At 18 years of age, the 2008 Vintage Fortified is bursting with energy and shape, the kind of wine that already drinks beautifully but still has a long life ahead. Led by Touriga Nacional and supported by Shiraz plus a strong cast of Portuguese varieties, it is bold, fresh, and beautifully composed.

The blend is a proper statement: Touriga Nacional 38%, Shiraz 26%, Tinta Roriz 20%, Tinta Barroca 7%, Durif 6% and Tinto Cão 3%. From an outstanding vintage, it shows both generous fruit and the backbone needed for the decades to come.

The flavour profile is vibrant and plummy, with lifted mulberry, black plum and aniseed right from the first pour. Fresh upfront flavours of clove and ripe plum carry across the palate, with subtle sarsaparilla and a crack of black pepper bringing depth and snap.

Finishing with firm tannins and a confident line of spice, this is a Vintage Fortified with serious potential through to 2035 and beyond. Tuck it away if you can, it will only get more layered and more rewarding with time.
