1990 Vintage Fortified - Jack's Block Vineyard
A Rare Relic from Jack's Block
One of the oldest vintage fortifieds from our most iconic vineyard
There are wines that mark a moment and then there are wines that carry an entire era. The 1990 Jack's Block Vintage Fortified is one of the latter.
Drawn entirely from Shiraz grown on Jack's Block, the vineyard planted by Jack Stanton himself in 1921, this wine was made from vines that were already 69 years old at harvest. It has spent more than three decades slowly concentrating in large old oak casks, and only two magnums were released in 2026. Releases of this age and from this vineyard are exceptionally rare, and the opportunity to own one does not come around often.
The colour is deep Indian ink, with a superb brandy spirit bouquet that speaks to decades of patient maturation. On the palate, the wine is immense: plum and berry in a rich, full-bodied style with lovely soft Shiraz fruit at its core. A generous tannin grip provides the structure that has allowed this wine to age so gracefully, while rich blackberry and earthy tones on the nose give way to big, full jammy fruit on the palate with fine, elegant tannins and excellent balance.
This is a wine built for the long haul, with the structure and concentration to continue evolving for years to come. It is also a direct connection to Jack Stanton's era, made from the same block he planted more than a century ago, from a time when fortified wine was the heart and soul of Rutherglen winemaking.
