2023 Jack's Block Shiraz
Planted in 1921 by fourth-generation, Jack Stanton, this centennial vineyard continues to produce wines that embody both history and refinement. the 2023 release offers a more elegant expression of our Jack's Block Shiraz. The wine is complex yet graceful, with lifted aromatics and a finely woven structure.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of blackcurrant and violets are supported by hints of baking spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with savoury spice weaving through a fine tannin structure. The finish is long and persistent, with subtle hints of oak and vanilla bean.
In contrast to the bold power of 2021, the 2023 vintage shows a more elegant side. Complex layers of blackcurrant, spice, and dark cocoa bean unfold with finesse, framed by a fine tannin structure that promises graceful ageing. Balanced, expressive, and refined, this wine speaks of heritage with a modern edge.
Winemaking Notes: Sourced exclusively from vines planted in 1921, Jack's Block Shiraz remains one of Stanton & Killeen's most treasured vineyards. With roots running deep into Rutherglen's soils, these old vines yield fruit of remarkable concentration and character.
The 2023 season was slightly cooler than average, resulting in a slower ripening period and a wine of elegance and balance. Hand-picked fruit was carefully sorted and fermented in small open top fermenters. The wine was matured in French oak, 30% new, for 18 months to build complexity while preserving freshness.
