2019 Vintage Fortified

Bold, Expressive and Built for Longevity

At 7 years of age, the 2019 Vintage Fortified is a rich and generous wine that reflects a warm and characterful growing season, delivering a classic Rutherglen style with impressive depth and fruit power. This blend of Durif 49%, Tinta Roriz 31%, Tinto Cao 9%, Touriga Nacional 8% and Souzao 2% takes an uncommon approach for S&K, with Durif dominating the blend. Yet half of the wine is still built on traditional Portuguese varieties, ensuring the lifted aromatics, balance and finesse that define the house style remain firmly at its heart.

The colour is a deep, vivid red and purple that will shift and evolve beautifully with time in the bottle.

The bouquet is perfumed and inviting, with roses, blackberries and violets lifting from the glass with real elegance and generosity.

On the palate, the wine opens with milk chocolate, dark berries and ripe cherry carrying across a layered and expressive mid palate. Gentle tannins frame the fruit beautifully, carrying through to a long and elegant finish. The balance between sweetness, structure and spirit is seamless, and the complexity here will only deepen with every year in the cellar.

Fermentation was halted at approximately 7% alcohol with the addition of grape spirit to retain natural sweetness and varietal fruit character, before a short period in oak to allow the components to integrate. Bottled early to preserve freshness and designed for the long haul, this wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to develop depth, harmony and sophistication over 20 to 30 years.
