This is a wine of rare and remarkable quality, and one of the finest examples of traditional Australian Vintage Fortified ever produced. Crafted entirely from Shiraz grown on the historic Jack's Block Vineyard, the 1994 is a pure expression of the old-world Rutherglen style, made by Chris Killeen at the very height of his considerable powers. Known to many as the Prince of Port, Chris brought an extraordinary depth of knowledge and instinct to this wine, and the result speaks for itself.

The bouquet is at once youthful and complex, with sweet plum and cranberry lifting from the glass with a freshness that belies its age. Intense dark black fruits, anise, liqueur chocolates, warming spice and walnut build beneath, with hints of espresso coffee threading through the nose with exceptional clarity.

On the palate, the wine is seamless, smooth and lightly sweet, with a juicy and generous mid palate that carries real depth and energy. The spirit is clean and perfectly integrated, adding dimension without weight, and the finish is soft, subtle and extraordinarily long. For a wine of this age, the freshness and vitality on show are truly remarkable.

This is a wine that simply keeps going, layer after layer, a taste of history and of absolute class.
