1999 Vintage Fortified
Sensuous, Rich and Beautifully Composed
At 27 years of age, the 1999 Vintage Fortified is a wine of real elegance and depth, crafted by Chris Killeen during the exciting early years of the S&K Portuguese variety program. This blend of Durif 32%, Touriga Nacional 30%, Tinta Cao 12%, Tinta Barroca 12%, Shiraz 10% and Cabernet Sauvignon 4% carries the hallmarks of a winemaker utterly in command of his craft and his fruit.
The colour is a deep, vivid crimson red that speaks to the concentration and richness within.
The bouquet is clean and fragrant, with a lifted spirit character framing cherry and light chocolate fruit aromas with real charm and composure.
On the palate, the wine is sensuous and generous, with cherry and blackcurrant at the core, layered with hints of white chocolate and subtle, soft drying tannins that carry the wine to a long, composed finish. Beneath the immediate impression of elegance and finesse lies all the richness and power of ripe, well-handled fruit, with a balance of tannins ideal for long term cellaring.
This is a wine that rewards patience and presence in equal measure. Drink it now alongside a slow-cooked dish or a rich chocolate dessert or cellar it further and let the layers deepen with time.
