Fragrant, Balanced and Wonderfully Alive

At 23 years of age, the 2003 Vintage Fortified is a wine of real fragrance and vitality, crafted by Chris Killeen from a blend of Shiraz 35%, Durif 22%, Touriga Nacional 18%, Tinta Barroca 10%, Tinta Cao 10% and Tinta Roriz 5%. It is a wine that still feels very much in its prime, with layers of fruit, spice and structure that continue to evolve and reward with every year in the bottle.

The colour has deepened to a rich, dark brown with age, reflecting the concentration and development within.

The bouquet is fragrant and inviting, with raspberries, glazed cherries and fresh blackberries lifting from the glass with real charm, alongside a gentle thread of anise and liquorice that adds depth and complexity to the nose.

On the palate, the wine delivers with real generosity. Delicious blackberry flavours carry through from the bouquet, complemented by that same touch of anise and liquorice that keeps things interesting from start to finish. The tannins are tight and present, providing excellent structure, while the brandy spirit sits in perfect balance, adding warmth and integration without ever dominating.

The finish is long, composed and beautifully balanced, with the freshness and energy of a wine that has much more to give.

Lovely with a cheese platter, baked brie or an antipasto spread. Drinking beautifully now and with the structure to cellar comfortably beyond 2032. Alc/Vol 18.5%.
