At 10 years of age, the 2017 Vintage Fortified is a wine of real prettiness and lift, a younger and more delicate expression of the Stanton & Killeen style. This blend of 34% Grand Noir, 33% Tinto Cão, 19% Tinta Barroca and 14% Durif comes together in a wine that feels fresh, fragrant, and full of charm.
It was a late, cool and wet year, with a long, drawn-out season of warm days and cool nights that allowed the fruit to develop slowly and ripen at lower sugars. The result is a wine built on structure and freshness, with bright natural acidity and excellent flavour definition, paired with high quality spirit to deliver real cellaring potential.
The flavour profile opens with a purple hue and beautifully lifted florals. The palate is bright and pretty, with blueberry, blackberry and violet at the core, complemented by lavender and a touch of vanilla. The tannins are fine and grippy, lending shape and structure while the fruit stays fragrant and lifted.
